When will it be held?
The Brisbane Takeover will be held on Monday 19 July 2027 to Friday 23 July 2027.
What will the tour be like?
It will be very similar to the Canberra Takeover. Have a look at those pages and the ride report.
It will be held over 5 days. There will be one or two rides each day leaving from and returning to the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens. It is anticipated that if you complete all the rides the total distance covered will be between 250km and 300km.
Where is the accomodation?
There is not any tourist park/cabin style accommodation close to Brisbane CBD. At this stage, I have not determined where I will be staying. During the test ride in July, I stayed at CLLIX Brisbane Skytower Apartments.
I’d recommend staying near the starting point in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens. Bike friendly options would be along the cycleways on Edward and Elizabeth Streets in Brisbane CBD. Alternatively, along the river in South Bank, Kangaroo Point or along the Brisbane River Walk.
I will update this answer when I have booked our accomodation.
Is there a cap on the number of riders?
Yes. The maximum number of riders will be 15. We had 13 riders at the Canberra Takeover.
There are currently more than 15 people who have registered interest to ride. I expect that there will be some spots that will open up. If you’d like to go please register as soon as possible, the allocation of spots will be based on when a person registered interest.
How should I get Brisbane?
The fastest way to get to Brisbane will be to fly. If you don’t have a big bag, you can ride from Brisbane Airport – it does have some on-road sections. You can take the Airtrain from Brisbane Airport to the Brisbane City. There are three ‘city’ stops you may prefer to choose the stop closest to your accomodation. If you are intending to ride – South Bank Station is most bike friendly and close to cycle routes.
If you are intending to drive, please make sure your accomodation has parking and determine what the per day costs is before making a booking.
Why are you using the Signal for communications?
We used Messenger leading up to and during the Canberra takeover to ensure that all participants receive the same information. We are changing to Signal for the Brisbane Takeover.
Signal is a free, open-source, and non-profit messaging app focused on extreme privacy and security. It is widely considered the “gold standard” for private communication. A messaging app is required because of incompatibility between Android and iPhone for group communication.
If I register my interest, am I committing to anything?
No. There is no commitment at this stage. All that will happen is that you will be included in the Signal group chat about the Brisbane Takeover.
