June 2026 Update

Next Adelaide Bromptonering Social Ride

The June 2026 Adelaide Bromptoneering Social Ride is leaving from Brightstar Brewing at 11:00am on Sunday 14 June. The weather is looking good. The coffee stop will be “Coffee Outside” please bring your preferred hot drink in a thermos. If you’d like to bake some goodies for us please let me know.

For route and other details visit the June 2026 Brightstar x Coffee Outside post. Please let us know if you intend to go (so there is enough space on the table at the end!).

We want your photos!

We would love to see your photos of your Brompton (and maybe you!).

Treadly Bikeshop has kindly donated two t-shirts (a size S and size M) which will be handed out our Christmas lunch to the people who sends us the two best photos in the second half of this year (subjectively selected by Helen and me).

The photo doesn’t have to be from one of our rides, just any photo that you love and have taken that has a Brompton in it.

If you are on Facebook send it to the Adelaide Bromptoneering Group. If you are not, you can e-mail it to ride@bromptoneering.blog.

Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday is the day when I choose one Adelaide Bromptoneering’s Social Rides from the vault and re-ride it! The purpose is to have a bit of fun and to update the route (which is now on the Adelaide Urban Adventures page) for current circumstances.

The next Throwback Thursday ride will be the Lady Burra ride. Adelaide Bromptoneering last rode this ride in March 2025. Anyone who attended this ride last time will agree with me that a Lady Burra is definitely a better place to visit on Thursday Lunch than Saturday Night on a bike ride. No need to RSVP just be out front of Lady Burra at 10:30am on Thursday 18 June.

The last Throwback Thursday ride had two participants. Gordon from Sydney and I re-traced the steps of the March 2024 Mismatch Brewing ride. The ride is still great even if Mismatch Brewing is no longer at that site.

The route is flexible and you can chose to start it from the Prince Albert Hotel (like I did), or Little Bang, Bowden Brewing or Brightstar Brewing.

April/May 2026 Update

Brisbane Takeover 2027

We’ve taken over the country’s capital, now it is time to takeover Brisvegas. Don’t worry there is much more to Brisbane than the Fortitude Valley night life. We will be exploring Brisbane, Adelaide Bromptoneering style.

If you are interested in joining us next year, let us know on the Brisbane Takeover 2027 page.

Canberra Takeover 2026

We had a great time in Canberra with near perfect weather, fantastic company and excellent bike routes. We also met some local Brompton owners and Helen was interviewed by local radio. On top of all that we raised $1,150 for Mildura Days for Girls the charity supported by our most excellent supporter – Julie.

If you are curious about what we did or would like an indication about what Brisbane will be like is then checkout Canberra Takeover Ride Report by Helen

Next Adelaide Bromptoneering Social Ride

The May 2026 Adelaide Bromptoneering Social ride is leaving from Pirate Life in Port Adelaide at 11:00am on Sunday 17 May.

For route and other details visit the Pirate Life Social Ride post.

Throwback Thursday

On Thursday 28 May, I am going to re-ride the Mismatch Brewing route that we rode on 17 March 2024. Times have changed, Mismatch is now closed. So I will be starting and finishing my throwback-Thursday ride at the Prince Albert Hotel. If you’d like to join, I’ll be passing by the Prince Albert Hotel around 10:30am. No need to RSVP.

My second throwback is to thirteen years ago when we rode the 5 Boro Bike Tour in New York with 32,000 of our closest friends. The 5 Boro Bike Tour happens each year and perhaps it something you might like to consider on your Brompton! I am sure Jeff would happily join you for a ride.

Brompton World Championship

Saturday 18 April 2026 was not a normal day at California’s Laguna Seca Raceway. While the circuit is more accustomed to motorcycle screams and tyre smoke, this time it hosted something altogether more civilised — and considerably more eccentric. The Brompton World Championship returned to the Americas for the first time since 2018, and it did not disappoint. Read more on Grand Fondo Daily News.

Or see it from a rider’s perspective in this video.

March 2026 Update

CADEL: Lungs on Legs

Adelaide Bromptoneers are going to see CADEL: Lungs on Legs at Goodwood Theatre and Studios on Tuesday 17 March 2026 at 6:15pm. Afterwards there will be short bonus ride for dinner.

From down under to the top of the podium — experience the riveting true story of Cadel Evans, the first and only Australian to win the Tour de France.

Fresh from a sold-out, award-winning season at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe, Connor Delves delivers a powerhouse solo performance that puts audiences in the cycling saddle. Pedalling live on the bike Evans rode to victory. Delves fuses grit, storytelling and heart-pounding energy in a breathtaking theatrical ride. A high-octane tribute to endurance, ambition and the spirit of Australian sport.

You might try your luck with CADEL10 code that has been floating around on Facebook. We hope to see you there.

Favourite Rides – Berlin-Tempelhof

You get to ride alongside the runway at Adelaide Airport. But I’ve always wanted to ride on the runway! Berlin gave us that opportunity at the ‘abandoned’ Berlin-Tempelhof. This place has been converted into open green space with Berliners riding bikes, having barbecues and tending community gardens. It wouldn’t be a Brompton ride without a beer and just down the road ontop of a shopping centre carpark was a fantastic beer garden. Perhaps Westfield should do that on-top of their shopping centres!?!

Next Ride

We return to our normal programming with a Sunday 11:00am ride on March 29 from Patritti. Check out the details on the March 2026 – Patritti Social Ride post.

February 2026 Update

Jeff’s Ride Returns

Our annual festival ride returns for 2026. It honours Jeff who visited Adelaide in 2024 with his Brompton to premiere The New Abnormal at Goodwood Theatres. We look forward to Jeff riding with us again sometime soon.

Our ride will leave from the South East Corner of the city at 6:30pm this Saturday (21 February 2026) and will visit several arts sites on a 20 or so kilometre loop around Adelaide. This will include the time honoured tradition of visiting Goodwood Theatres for pre-dinner refreshments! Details are available from the Jeff’s Ride post.

If you are coming please let us know via the Adelaide Bromptoneering Feedback page.

In this festival season you might like to consider some of the shows at venues we have visited on our rides:

  • Goodwood Theatres has 33 shows on this Fringe covering many genres from contemporary dance, comedy, physical theatre and theatre.
  • The Suburban Brew Glynde has 10 shows ranging from the family friendly to music and not so family friendly comedy.
  • Kickback Brewing has 9 shows including a 40+ burlesque show! But if you are after family friendly, music, comedy or cabaret they have you covered.
  • Brightstar Brewing has a couple of shows. Fitting in with my usual theme one show will ample a flight of craft beers (audience members are invited to sip along), with the trio recommending the perfect book to match each flavour profile.
  • Mad Monkey Distillery also has a couple of shows featuring both comedy and music.
  • Shapeshifter Brewing Company similarly has a couple of shows featuring both comedy and music.
  • Crafty Robot Brewing has some country music on during the fringe.
  • Little Bang Brewery Co has a the Ministry of Laughs!
  • SixTwelve Brewing has Yeah Nah Yeah!

Favourite Rides

Actually I wouldn’t recommend riding this one because it was along a busy national highway in Japan. But, Helen does like a good photo and these bus shelters were pretty. If you’d like to get there yourself then this website might help https://www.japan.travel/en/sg/jbyj-blog/konagai-bus-stops-japan-fruit-shapes/

Canberra Takeover

If you are interested in coming to Canberra this April (Monday 20 April to Friday 24 April) but still have some questions about how to get involved, then please contact us through the Adelaide Bromptoneering Feedback page. We will contact you and answer any questions you may have.

For those coming to the Canberra Takeover, Anzac Day is the day after our ride program concludes. Not too many details are available yet, but the National War Memorial has some information on its website. We certainly plan to go to the Dawn Service.

Other things to see in Canberra during our takeover include:

  • Hallyu! The Korean Wave, an exhibition from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, celebrating one of the most dynamic cultural movements of our time. This is showing at the National Museum of Australia.
  • Behind the lines 2025, Are We Rolling? celebrates the year’s best political cartoons at the Museum of Australian Democracy.
  • In Bloom explores the beauty and symbolism of flowers at the National Portrait Gallery.
  • The Canberra and Region Heritage Festival will be on. This year it will be exploring ‘Mid-Century – innovation, change and optimism’ that helped define the architectural, cultural and social transformations that shaped Canberra as the national capital.
  • If you want a challenge on a your Brompton then come a day early and do the Five Peaks Bike Challenge with 1,820 metres of vertical climbing! Let us know if you register.

It will involve three stops – entree, mains and dessert. So bring a healthy appetite, your lights and good humour.

2026 Full Ride Program

If you haven’t got one of our ride program postcards for your fridge, then you can always access the ride program online from the 2026 Adelaide Bromptoneering Ride Program post or you can add them directly to your calendar app.

2025 What a Year

In 2025 there were 12 Adelaide Bromptoneering Rides. If you rode all 12 you covered 247km and climbed 970 vertical metres. You may have consumed 12 beers and a few cocktails too! We did a pretty good job of getting around Adelaide as shown by the map below. I’ve updated details on the blog to include all of the routes we completed during 2025. So if you’d like to re-ride one of the routes or just reminisce you can do this from the new Adelaide Urban Adventures page. Over time I’ll include rides from previous years.

Featured Ride 202501 – Adelaide Bromptoneering x Brompton Social Ride (January 2025)

This ride is one of my favourite rides of 2025. It was a 23km loop through Adelaide, Parkside, Unley, Malvern, Kingswood, Kings Park, and Goodwood. A version of this ride was originally done in 2024, but it was brought back for the Tour Down Under as part of Brompton Australia’s ride program.

It was certainly hot at the 5:00pm start on 19 January 2025! While a gelato at 48 Flavours in Unley cooled us down, it would be better starting a little later in the evening. But we needed the early start to get to Reggies before its early Sunday closing time. Nevertheless, we got see some of the inner south’s back streets and lanes. This included the lane next with Urrbrae and Unley High Schools, the secret lane to Mitcham Primary School and the Overbury Tree.

B&W Luggage for Bromptons

It looks like someone has imported a bunch of B&W luggage for Brompton bikes into Australia. The following B&W luggage options seem to be available from a few bike retailers:

Some retailers are offering discounted prices and/or free delivery. Get that AI agent to help find the best deal for you!

Christmas and new year rides

Reminder: The Christmas ride is this Sunday (21 December) at 11:00am. The weather is looking cooler (23c), but a chance of a shower. Details available from December 2025 Social Ride – Brickmakers Arms Brompton post.

If you haven’t let me know that you are coming please do so by leaving a note on the Adelaide Bromptoneering Feedback page. This helps with planning the table for lunch at the Brickmakers Arms.

We have prizes thanks to Brompton Australia and Treadly. There will be a prize for the best dressed bike and/or rider, a prize for the fastest unfold, and a couple of door prizes.

There will be Christmas soundtrack this year. I’ll be playing it from my low powered portable IKEA blue tooth speaker. If you’d like to simulcast it to your own speaker then make sure you have downloaded DJ Riko’s 2025 Merrymixmas from this website https://djriko.com/merry-mixmas-mixes/ to your preferred portable device.

I’ve included some photos from last year’s Christmas ride for inspiration.

First ride for 2026

The first ride for 2026 will be a progressive dinner starting at 5:30pm on the Wednesday January 14 2026. Save the date!

December 2025 Update

Brompton Christmas Ride – December 2025 – Brickmakers Arms

On Sunday 21 December at 11:00am, we will return to the Brickmakers Arms in Brompton for our Christmas Ride and Lunch.

This year, both Brompton Australia and Treadly are supporting our Christmas Ride and Lunch with some great prizes. There will be a best dressed bike prize, best dressed human prize, fastest unfold prize, and some lucky door prizes.

The routes for 2026 will be announced. This will include the routes for the Canberra Takeover in April.

If you are coming and haven’t yet registered please do so on this “feedback page”. This allows us to ensure that there is enough space around the lunch table after the ride! Please let me know in a note if a non-riding companion is joining you.

Get your very own Adelaide Bromptoneering Calendar

We had a great time with our regular Adelaide Bromptoneering rides. We have created the perfect souvenir of 2025. The Adelaide Bromptoneering Calendar 2026. It’s available now as a PDF by following the link.

Sneak Peek

The first ride for 2026 will be Wednesday the 14th of January starting at 5:30pm. So please add this to your calendar.

The reason for the odd time and the odd day is that the first ride for 2026 will be a progressive dinner. We will be visiting three local establishments in or near the CBD for entree, main and the followed by a lovely dessert.

We had a great time leading a similar ride for the Unley Bicycle User Group and thought we should share this experience with our Brompton friends.

Light ’em up

I was recently doomscrolling and came across what looked like a new and interesting set of lights specifically for Brompton Bikes. The Mini Bike Light Combo for Brompton from Magic Shine Australia. They state “The VTG lighting system is a high-performance, versatile solution designed specifically for folding bikes. Perfect for cyclists who enjoy urban commuting, leisure riding, and road cycling, the VTG system combines innovation, safety, and user-friendly design to enhance every ride.

The system includes three key products: the VTG 1000 Front Light, the VTG Wireless Remote, and the VTG 50 TL Tail Light. Together, they ensure maximum visibility and safety, all while maintaining a sleek and compact design.”

Going to Japan with your Brompton?

You can find out about Brompton Community events in Tokyo (you’ll need to turn on your translate function) from this website >> https://brompton-community.peatix.com. You can message through organiser from the website – you never know your luck in the big city.

Brompton Junction in Tokyo can be found online here >> https://jp.brompton.com/find-a-store/brompton-junction/tokyo and in real life in Jingumae, a district of Shibuya.

I’d also recommend visiting:

  • Life with Bicycle which can be find online here >> https://lb-daikanyama.jp and in real life near Daikanyama, also a district of Shibuya. Life with Bicycle was the shop that fixed my bike last year after my pedal “bolt” broke in the crank. Very helpful!
  • Loro Slowspot which can be find online here >> http://www.loro.co.jp and in real life their Tokyo branch can be found in Nihonbashi, a district of Chuo City. When our friend forgot to bring her frame for her front bag, they helped us out by lending us one for the trip!
  • Rinproject makes a bunch of interesting gear for Brompton and other bikes. They can be found online here >> https://www.rinproject.com/index.html and in real life in Matsugaya, in Taito City.
  • Blue Lug has cool gear for all sorts of bikes, including Brompton. They can be found online here >> https://bluelug.com. They have three shops in Tokyo – I’ll let you Google them. Apparently, they also run a custom paint shop, a cafe and a barber!

If you happen to be heading down to the Shimanami Kaido next month, then you might able to join the Brompton in Palace meeting on 21 December 2025 in Sentoda. We have been to a few Brompton in Palace meetings when they were held in Tokyo. We met many liked minded Brompton friends.

I’ve included some photos from last trip to encourage you. And finally a shout out to Alison and Sam who are in Tokyo as I type.

The Inspiration for Adelaide Bromptoneering

Meet Mayumi-san the person who inspired us to start Adelaide Bromptoneering.

Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail

The Melbourne Brompton Club held a rail trail ride on the last weekend in August. There were a total of 15 Bromptoneers that took part. There were 3 from Adelaide, 1 from Geelong and 1 from Maryborough. That means 10 came from Melbourne. I arrived a day late after heeding the tornado warning from the BOM over the South Eastern Freeway on the Friday. I joined for the Sunday return ride to Warrnambool.

It was a good opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new Brompton friends. Here are some of my photos.

New Melbourne Route Library

I stayed in Melbourne for the week following the Port Fairy rail trail ride. I prepared and tested 5 new rides in Melbourne. They all follow the Adelaide Bromptoneering formula. That is a loop ride of around 20km (although there is one longer non loop ride) exploring the suburban backstreets, starting and finishing at a brewery with a coffee stop along the way.

This builds on the 4 pastry tour routes that I mapped out and tested last year. So when you visit Melbourne with your Brompton, the Adelaide Bromptoneering site has a library of 9 super fun rides. They all include Strava/GPX routes, commentary and photos. If you have any questions leave a comment on the relevant route page.

To make life easier, I have created a new page that brings together the Melbourne Route Library I’ve include some photos to whet your appetie.

October Social Ride

The next ride is an adventure ride around Mount Barker. There are more hills compared to the normal Adelaide Bromptoneering Social Ride. If you’d like to give it a go – don’t worry – please do. We will have a tail-end Charlie to ensure that no one is left behind.
