This was a totally amazing experience. – the train was sechulded to leave at 11:30. We were standing on the platform with our luggage waiting for the train to turn up from about 10:00. They announced the train, and a large number of people just ran to the other end of a very long platform (we couldn’t see the end). These were the people who had second class seats with no reservations. So what do you do when you don’t have seat reservations? you run and jump on of course! a number of minutes later when the train went by there were still people jumping on the train, it was totally amazing to see. I’ve never seen anything like that before in my life.
Once we got to Goa (only 4 hours late), we paid this guy 100 rupees to carry our suitcases. On his head is 40kg’s of our luggage – not to mention another 10 on his shoulder. He walked up three ramps and down three flights of stairs. These guys are fit! Sorry Amy I don’t think we will be attempting this on our next visit.
but what about the train picture?!

Sorry. I have some photos from inside the train. BUt our porter walked to quickly for us to take photos of the outside of the train. We should have taken a photo of the rush for the unassigned seats in the cheaper classes. That was something else! The passengers group together further up the platform and as the train moves in the jump on the train as it is still moving to get the best seat. They pay the porter to run with the bags and pass them to them even before the train has stopped.
