Required kitchen gadget..?
While a great requirement for hotel buffet breakfasts.. are these the next best item for your kitchen to toast your morning croissant?

Tea-lemon bagel… oh.. this was a delight!

Tokyo is a big city.. but many of the big cities within a city are actually quite close. Where we stay is about 3km from Tokyo Station and Marunouchi and just over 5km to Shinjuku. After many trips not actually getting to Shimokitazawa, known for its vintage fashion (and perhaps curry shops), we had planned an 18km route from Yoyogi Station to Higashi-Nakano station via Shimokitazawa. Both of those locations were on our local train line.
In the morning, instead of catching the train we decided to use the old “Compass” mode of Beeline with a single location plotted. That location was Tanbo a rice specialty shopping that indeed is closed during harvest time. Not too many wrong turns and few spots that demanded riding on the path.

It was certainly worth it. The rice was great and the toppings grilled salmon, pickles, egg and some nori were top notch. The MISO soup! WOW! Helen loves a good Japanese breakfast and is now trying to rearrange our holiday to visit again!

… and this was a fabulous breakfast for just over $10 (exchange rate has gone up in past few days). A real delight In Kumamoto.

… as a bonus the menu was in English. I would have chosen it from the pictures alone.

Kym found it on google last night.. it only does breakfasts. In Japan there are not many places you can find open for breakfast. It’s located opposite the railway station complex, and on the second floor – highlighting good things are around if you look (and thanks to google).
Back in Nagasaki before the train to Shimabara and in need of breakfast we discovered this delightful bakery… thankfully they were open.
It’s called Bread A Esspresso and it is open Friday- Monday from 6:30-10:30am. The bread is delicious and you can taste the flavour. We shared a blueberry bun, walnut and chocolate. They were small – which was perfect. Additionally we each had a cappuccino. If you dislike chocolate on top come here as they don’t add it. We really enjoyed both the bread and coffee.

The place was really busy – people coming constantly. the menu is simple – and what is on display is on the menu.
In Japan if you eat in you pay a higher tax rate… and we were willing to do this. There was bench space for eating – and we were really pleased to not be drinking and eating from take-away cups.
It’s a true delight and we highly recommend if you are in Nagasaki.
Normally when booking accommodation at hotels we usually do not book breakfast option. But it was included- always important to check the congestion before you go.
Here is what we had.. can you guess which one was mine..?

Getting a little slower… lots of activity is leaving me a little tired. Nothing, though, a good breakfast and kohi can’t fix.
We are here at Sol’s Coffee Roastery in Kuramae (https://sols-coffee.com)today….
Not a bad deal two delicious set breakfasts caffe latte for $25!
