Flying…

It’s not my favourite part of going on holiday – but the movies on offer can be a good distraction. Especially when travelling with JAL there are many options.

One of my favourites was Destiny: the tale of Kamakura. Fantasy set in popular seaside town to visit, featuring Enoden (Enoshima Electric Railway). There are places I recognised visiting from watching the film. Here is a popular photo spot which features in the film. I understand it also features in other manga, and tv show from Korea.

I also watched, We make antiques, Tremble all you want. All good Japanese films!

A day at the beach..

Enoshima and Kamakura

Yes, while in Enoshima we went to the beach. Although I think our friend’s son had the most fun!

Good to see people put tents up for themselves and dogs

Enoshima and Kamakura

As at any beach there was a lot going on which we could see – passing churros to one another before going on the ski boats

The odd cyclist

We also had a frisbee, which ended up being used as a digging tool for sand. We were happy to leave it behind! You can also get ice creams –

However we didn’t have that… I enjoyed a Japanese dessert of mochi and ice cream, and Kym had a mochi-waffle… which is not pictured but it was better with ice cream and his green ten latte!

Of course when you’ve finished at the beach you have to catch a tram

At the end of the day we walk up the path to the Shrine in Kamakura

We also enjoyed a great meal together with our friends at the end of day – thanks Gaku Ryoko and Shota for a great day out! We look forward to seeing you again

Last lunch…

Enoshima

Food is really good in Japan – doesn’t matter where you get it from. Today our last lunch was in a sushi restaurant off the main Enoshima walking path. This lunch cost 1,000 yen or around $13AUS. Sushi was perfect, there was also miso soup, salad and a small seafood snack of octopus in soy and wasabi. So simple, so tasty. As always, we will miss it….

Mt Fuji

It’s elusive.. but magnificent when you can see it. As it’s spring it’s a bit hit and miss of being able to see Mt Fuji.

Bike with Fuji

However, we were lucky on the first day at Enoshima at being able to see it while riding- sugoi (amazing in Japanese – language characters don’t work on this blog, and there are mistakes I always have to fix!)

One of our Brompton friends Takero joined us for the day and played tour guide.

We found a good coffee shop

Enoshima

We cleaned our money at a temple to bring us fortune.

Enoshima

We went to see the large Buddha- I like the sandals!

Kamakura

Cycling along the beach was fun – a lot like home. There are a number of roadies cycling fast between Kamakura and Enoshima – and a few slower people like us enjoying the view. As expected there were a number of picnics on the beach – I was impressed by the effort these people went to!

Last few days…

When it’s holiday season Tokyoites go to Kamakura/Enoshima for a day trip. However as we are Australian we go for a few days before we head home. Yes… this means taking our luggage on board trains and taking up most of the room!

Enoshima

Wildlife…

Sunday - Tokyo

Believe it or not there are snakes in Japan. Here is proof- this was taken in Hibya park in midtown.

We’ve also seen lots of these

Day 3 - Togi to Wajima

Many of these in our ride

Day 3 - Togi to Wajima

We also saw goats and an Emu. Yes it was an emu – I saw it myself. I was cycling at the time so I didn’t stop to find out why it was there.

There were also a lot of little dogs – even in the markets!
