Report from KL

It is a muggy 32c here today. I am located in an internet business centre on the 1st floor of a budget hotel in area that I don’t actually know where it is on the map. But hey that’s the fun of a holiday.

For those of you who asked Helen not to take photographs of libraries, I am sorry to disappoint you but we have some already. I am sure Helen will fill you in on the details.

KL has been the heights of luxury for us. Greeted by 50 people eager to help at KLIA made finding the one ready to whisk us away in the Merceded Benz limo hard to find. Cool (read frozen) towels were appreciated given our sudden change from chilly Adelaide to the claustrophobic humidity.

Our hotel is in KLCC a modern set of shops, hotel, office and accomodation surrounding a large park area. KLCC is connected to the rest of KL by a modern driverless light rail system. But you could stay in KLCC without the need to visit the rest.

But we didn’t we visited KL town centre, the central market, china town (no I don’t need a new watch or the latest VCD!) admired the range of food and the intoxicating (usually nice) smells.

We ate in a curry house and were offered and accepted a range of interesting foods including the largest prawn I have seen. Our digestive systems are not yet suffering in adverse consequences. This great and cheap experience was followed up by a top notch dinner in our hotel. I could eat like this every day.

I am going to try to upload some photos now.

Plane flight from Adelaide to KL

How do you pass the time on a plane flight? On Malaysian Airlines you watch Bollywood films of course!!! After watching two films the flight was nearly over. I must admit the films were great. I watched Swades and another film that I can’t remember (but it didn’t have much dancing or singing at all). Food was okay too.

The flight itself only had two sections of turbulence. Of which I thought was going to be a lot worse based on what they said. The first section was crossing the bight, and the second was where the plane was over the sea just off Australia towards KL. Thankfully it was not too bad.

When we got to the airport, we had to catch a train to the terminal to collect our luggage – very bizzare. Then once collecting luggage you walk through customs (“just go through” waved on through), and you go into the arrival hall, where you are surrounded 280 degrees by people waiting for people, and at least 20+ drivers asking you if you want a taxi. Thankfully we had one ordered.

Once leaving the terminal it was sooo humid. But the driver offered us a cold towel, bottled water, and music. I am very grateful this was organised! The ride itself into the hotel took over 45 minutes.

Okay I know we have a 12+ hour flight to go tonight so I shouldn’t be too excited.

Highway 1 – California

This photo shows how Highway 1 hugs much of the Californian coast.

The wonderful thing about the coast road is that throughout the day the environment is changing. In the morning there was lots of fog, as the day warmed up it burnt off. There was also plenty of sea mist.

These conditions provided for some pretty amazing perspectives.

Dog at Peterborough Lift Lock

Dog at Peterborough Lift Lock

Peterborough lift lock is the tallest in the world, or so I remember. The fall colours were beautiful. This dog was below the lift lock and belonged to workers at the lock.

Ontatio had the most spectacular colours during our Fall trip.
