While sunbathing you are also suppose to show respect by not going topless – okay so this doesn’t affect me… but no-one told the person lying down! Thankfully she was lying down. We saw a number of people looked very brown or red.

You will be pleased to know that while we were there the weather ranged from 34-37 degrees, with very high humidity! We put sunscreen on at least three times a day… but I managed to get slightly burnt.

Roll on winter!

KL Shopping

Frankly it is hard to believe that there are so many shopping choices in KL.Currently we’re in one of the many shopping malls in the Bukit Bintang area. Although this one is firmly aimed at the locals. There is no Gucci, Dunhill, Louis Vuitton, Porsche Design, Dior etc etc there is plenty of cheap computer shops, cheap clothing shops, tailors etc. On the top floor is the trendy zone for teenages. Frankly it works and is something that could easily be emulated on the top floor of that white elephant Myer Centre.

Around the corner from this excessively fast internet cafe, hopefully Helen is uploading some more photos fo you, is the Roller Sports – roller skating rink and cafe. Given my record I decided not to try and roller skate again!!

After this we’re heading off to the National Library… They probably won’t let us in – but these are the things you do to keep the other half happy while on holiday. If you’re lucky enough you will see some photos.

Last few hours in India…

Last day in India, was spent walking along the beach in Goa, having an iced coffee because it was so hot, and shoving everything into our suitcases.

Our final internal flight in India was on Kingfisher airlines. While the flight only lasted an hour (thankfully), we still got a meal – paneer in tomato with rice. I will miss the food.

However, we transfered to the international airport from the domestic – and I recommend that no-one do that unless you really have to! We waited as long as the flight back to KL. And until you can register for the flight there is nothing you can do! Okay you can go to the toilet, look at the very sad cafe with dogy chicken sandwich, the post office (which was closed), and the tourist shop.

Okay I will admit – I looked at the tourist shop. As usual it contained everything that you saw while on your holiday in India (why do all that travelling..!).

However, the only bright spot was finding a coffee table book about SRK!!!!! woo-hoo! Major excitment. After asking the shop assistant to take off the wrapping so I could look inside (it was expensive), it only took me 20 seconds to make my decision. However she tried to get me to buy some t-shirts, bangles, pashmenas… which I declined and bought the book. Thankfully I spent the next 45 minutes pouring over the pages. As I hadn’t spotted this anywhere else in India, I have to admit that the tourist shop in the International airport is worth a visit.

So we thought we’d try some island hopping. These little boats take about 8 to 10 passengers and go pretty damn fast as they aquaplan towards some of the more popular islands.

The amazing thing is that amongst they mayhem of the clearly inadequate jetty infrastructure, everyone seems to get back onto the right boat. I don’t know how.

Langkawi is a gorgeous place with beautiful beaches set against a back drop of severe mountaints. But being near the equator means that it is hot and humid.

While I have been sweating a fair bit, it still doesn’t come up to the steaming contraption that I was in as part of my aryuvedic massage in Goa. But that, perhaps, is another story for discussion over coffee.

SRK

Well this billboard is about as close as I am going to get to SRK. At least they had these billboards all over India. It is quite strange that in India, a large number of their Bollywood stars promote products from Pepsi, toothpaste, biscuits, chips and watches.

For those who don’t know who SRK is you can read about him on Wikipedia.

While I have very little interest in Hollywood movies and their stars, I prefer Bollywood. Thankfully while in India I was able to purchase a number of DVD’s and CD’s, to satisfy me for at least a few weeks.

I must also admit that I did enjoy the TV in India. While I understand no hindi, it was great watching parts of Indian soapies, Koffee with Karan, and music videos from the films. If only I could subscribe to a few channels in Australia I would get pay TV. I’ll just have to be happy with regular visits to the DVD/CD shop in Market street, and the latest release films at the cinema.

Reclining Buddha…

In Arangabad we visited the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, which date back to 2 BC. The picture was taken at the Ajanta caves, and is of the Budda at death when his spirit rose to the heaven. Apparently he died of indigestion.

You can still see the early paint work from when they were originally created – which is amazing.

These caves are truely fascinating, and worth the plane trip, wait in the airport, and the two hour drive.
